You Can YouTube That

August 2024

Hi Caddyshackers

Gosh there’s a lot of stuff on YouTube!

While it seems to have been around forever, YouTube was actually launched on February 14th, 2005. It’s owned by Google and is the second most visited website in the world, after Google Search. YouTube has more than 2.70 billion monthly active users as of 2023. More than a quarter of the world's population uses YouTube every month!

You know the saying “if you don’t know how to..... YouTube it”! There are even YouTube videos on YouTube functions. Wild!

Home Turf

In our humble corner of the internet, the Caddyshack YouTube channel is the quiet sibling of our Instagram and Facebook channels.  We currently have a very modest 78 subscribers on our channel. Thank-you, we appreciate that! Our channel has 107 videos with series organised into playlist episodes. Fancy hey!

At the time of publishing this blog, we’ve had a grand total of 28,384 views. Heck yeah! According to YouTube analytics, our most viewed video with almost 6K views is “How to make a woman orgasm”. This video was taken from a webinar we did with the wonderful Dr Melissa Kang aka Dolly Doctor back in 2021 (remember that magazine?!). You can watch the Top Ten most googled sex questions webinar in its entirety here

The other most watched video is “The making of Connie condom dress”, which was created in 2014! This clip features the staff and young people at Thirroul Youth Project, in the Illawarra, NSW, Australia putting together some fabulous condom couture for Youth Week. Shout out to Alex Sturman at Xander Productions who filmed and edited the clip over a series of weeks as they created the dress entirely made out of condoms.

Featuring a whopping 834 views (ha ha) is the “Caddyshack Bloopers reel”, which was from a chlamydia outreach screening event we conducted at the University of Wollongong back in 2019. It’s fun if you want to take a look.

Another video with high views is “Barrier methods of contraception”, which we created in 2021, when we were getting a lot more creative online amidst Covid-19.

Looking back

Let’s highlight some videos that haven’t been seen as much, but are well worth the watch. These are all from the “On The Couch webinar series”. You can watch the webinars or listen to the podcast version with the following fantastic guests, who were a real honour and privilege for us to host.

Stella Topaz, is a sexological bodyworker, erotic coach and sex educator from Abundant Body. Stella brought her own experiences (and gaps) of living queer, feminist, white and female in the world to this webinar. Embracing and loving the body they are in and the person they are, they take great care to live with compassion, gratitude and presence. Sexological bodywork celebrates and strengthens us in who we uniquely are, beyond restrictive binaries and imposed roles and structures. Fav Quote from this episode:

People often say they feel overwhelmed thinking about queer or trans healthcare but the vast majority of people don’t need to learn a lot, it is more about grounding our practice in compassion and humility than it is about have specialized knowledge... the respect of trans and queer people right to consent, right to knowledge, those are things you can practice without any fancy vocab”

Where to from here?

In March 2023, YouTube got a new CEO who said the vision for the future of the app will include “a range of creator monetization and expression tools, along with YouTube TV developments, generative AI, podcasts, and more”.
