What We're Loving Right Now
January 2023
Hi Caddyshackers,
You have heard us share what we are loving right now at the end of each blog. We thought we would start 2023 strong and write a blog about all the things we are loving! How’s that for keeping the vacay vibes going.
Part of what we do is try to keep up with book releases, movies, shows, music & Insta accounts that are on topic for us… being about empowerment, consent, sex positivity etc.
Here are a couple of recommendations from the team at Caddyshack:
Book: Losing it by sophia smith galer
Jen always makes good use of Wollongong library and recently reviewed this book and highly recommends it.
Clueless about everything from her own anatomy to relationships, Sophia Smith Galer’s sex education classes left her with more questions than answers.
But what she didn’t know was that this lack of knowledge was about to turn her life upside down – as it does to countless people in the UK every year.
Wanna know what this book covers?
Yep, it’s good stuff!
The Virginity Myth: Does having sex for the first time alter us biologically?
The Sexlessness Myth: Who is abstaining and why?
The Virility Myth: Why do men feel so much pressure to have sex?
The Consent Myth: Is there more to it than just saying no?
Give it a read and let us know what you think.
Got a book recommendation? We would love to hear from you. We are always growing our Caddyshack Library.
You can check out our reviews in the Caddyshack Library, just make sure you come back to this blog to read more about what we are loving right now - you’re not gonna wanna miss this!
Movie: Bros
Looking for a move to make you laugh and feel all the feels?
We can highly recommend watching the movie Bros.
Bobby is a neurotic podcast host who's happy to go on Tinder dates and content not to have a serious relationship.
That all changes when he meets Aaron, an equally detached lawyer who likes to play the field. Repeatedly drawn to each other, both men begin to show their vulnerable sides as their undeniable attraction turns into something resembling a commitment.
A feel good, fun and poignant gay Romcom.
Show: Heartbreak High
We are massive fans of the reboot of Heartbreak High. So much so, that we are watching it for the second time round!
What can we say that the rave reviews haven't said already?
Fresh, gritty and in love with every character as they model sexual literacy, consent and respect.
It covers all the big issues for young people today. Please watch it and check them out on the Gram.
It does come with a content warning, so please take good care of yourself.
Doco: The Australian Wars
Changing channels from streaming platforms, but still accessing On Demand over at SBS, we also watched The Australian Wars.
The Australian Wars is a three-part TV series directed and produced by Arrernte and Kalkadoon nations filmmaker Rachel Perkins. Perkins travels across vast territory to capture key aspects of a war that lasted more than 100 years, from the landing of the First Fleet in 1788 until the 1920s. The series traces some of the key phases, sites and underlying features of frontier wars here on home soil.
Music: Entangle by Paco Versailles
Moving onto the tunes, our song on repeat for Summer has been Entangle by Paco Versailles. Hold on, we have to listen to it again right now.
Ok, we’re back.
Can we talk about that fabulous choreography! Just try and look away, we can’t!
Paco Versailles is a collaboration between guitarist/ composer Vahagni and songwriter/ producer Ryan Merchant (Capital Cities). Their sound is a mix of flamenco guitar rhythms with disco-leaning electronic production and captivating vocals, a new genre they call Dancemenco.
The name Paco Versailles was conceived while imagining a collaboration between their biggest influences, the legendary Spanish guitarist Paco De Lucia and French electronic artists Daft Punk and Air, both products of the Parisian suburb of Versailles.
Podcast: Social Work Stories
Love a good poddy? So do we!
Don't be put off by the title of this one thinking you need to be a social worker, you don’t.
There is honestly something for everyone in this conversation between Lis Murphy, Social Work Educator for the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District & Dr Mim Fox a social work academic, educator and collaborative researcher at the University of Wollongong.
Listen to them cover topics such as companioning end of life care, COVID deaths, social work and narrative therapy in the Drug & Alcohol space, bushfire recovery stories and SO much more on the Social Work Stories podcast.
Gee there are some great podcasts out there. Keep an eye out for more of our favs in 2023.
Following: Alan Tsibulya
Moving onto the Gram, we might have let out a little squeal when Alan Tsibulya posted for the first time in years!
We think they were completing their studies (Nope didn’t have to investigate too much to put that together, promise) and making cameos in the Marvel Universe (wink).
Why Did You Unfollow? It’s just SO good! We can’t wait to see more from Alan.
Oh and before we move on, we just had to include this throwback to one of our all time favourites - Mercury Retro.
Did we just go down an Alan Tsibulya rabbit hole? Guilty.
Artist: Salty One
We love creativity and innovation.
If you haven’t browsed through the special body of work from Indigenous Artist, Lowell Hunter from Salty One, what are you waiting for?
Lowell Hunter is a proud Nyul Nyul Saltwater man from the Kimberley's in Western Australia, who grew up on Gunditjmara Country in Warrnambool, and now lives on Wathaurong Country, Geelong.
Lowell creates sand art and uses drone photography to capture the scale of his works within breathtaking landscapes, which all started simply, as a way for him to get out and connect with culture, Country and sea.
Using only his feet, Lowell carves stories into the sand using the same foot movements he was taught through Traditional dance movements his people have practised for countless generations.
Lowell’s artworks tell stories of family, identity and connection.
Mesmerising, inspirational and powerful!

Well, gotta say this blog may have taken the longest time to put together. We had to re-watch, listen and read all our recommendations (hard task, right?!). Hope it was just what you needed to start off 2023.
Catch you next month.
