What keeps us happy and healthy as we go through life? If you think its fame and money, you're not alone – but, according to psychiatrist Robert Waldinger, you're mistaken.

As the director of a 75-year-old study on adult development, Waldinger has unprecedented access to data on true happiness and satisfaction. In this talk, he shares three important lessons learned from the study as well as some practical, old-as-the-hills wisdom on how to build a fulfilling, long life.

The Harvard Study of Adult Development may be the longest study of adult life that's ever been done. For 75 years, they’ve tracked the lives of 724 men, year after year, asking about their work, their home lives, their health, and of course asking all along the way without knowing how their life stories were going to turn out.

This video explains what the Wollongong SafeHaven is all about. It is a safe, non-clinical alternative to the Emergency Department if you are feeling distressed or suicidal.

A Safe Haven is a place you can go if you’re feeling distressed or having suicidal thoughts. It is a safe place where you can talk openly about how you are feeling and what you’re going through.

A place where you can feel supported and not judged. You can talk to peer-support workers or be connected to a mental health professional. If you don’t feel like chatting, you can spend time in a quiet space and listen to music.

It’s free and you don’t need an appointment.

Out & About

Jon Foreman, Sculpt the World is a creator of various styles of Land Art, he is ever in search of “different.” Be it with stones or leaves, inland or on beaches.

His work is ephemeral in many differing ways; most often the weather and immediate climate will make his work disappear (be blown down/washed away by the tide), and sometimes other people will interfere.

This is all part of the creative process and has proven to benefit his work. Jon’s practice is not just something he enjoys but it is also a therapy for him, an escape from the stresses of everyday life.

Most of his work takes place in an already beautiful setting such as the Pembrokeshire coastline. Having grown up there he saw the beauty of the coastline and woodlands and made use of them by collaborating with nature itself.
